The one best precept-the golden rule in dealing with a horse-is never to approach him angrily. Anger is so devoid of forethought that it will often drive a man to do things which in a calmer mood he will regret.

What are Natural Concepts?

DO NO HARM...Never should sensitive tissue be invaded or the comfort of the horse be sacrificed in the name of "healing".

Respect the horse's innate ability to heal itself, given the proper environment for healing is established.

A horse's environment encompasses all aspects of his being, including not only the trimmed state of the foot, but a shoe if applied, his stabling, turnout, nutrition, exercise, etc...

Each horse is unique and should be treated as such, never should he be forced to fit into a trim formula, rather the landmarks of that particular foot should be used to guide the trim.

There are no extraneous structures of the hoof, each has a specific function or functions, and works in concert with the other structures of the foot, both externally and internally.

While a great deal has been learned about the equine foot by the various studies of the wild horses' feet, simply imitating it's shape does not guarantee barefoot performance.

The greatest tool in rehabilitating the equine foot is TIME...no trim or shoe can replace it!
